Creative Every Day January 1st – 4th

I seem to be starting the year with a bit of creativity every day. None of it is at photo op stage yet, or otherwise visible - like ~ working behind the scenes on my blog 8-) I have started two knitting projects... one is a scarf (maybe) that doubles up as a canvas for learning lots of stitch patterns. I bought a book of knitting stitches last March with the intent of getting all knowledgeable, but until this week I have simply looked through it imagining... I'm starting with the easy ... read more

The Long and the short of it

I temporarily suspended my sock knitting adventure to concentrate on finishing the baby papoose. Although I'm a fairly new knitter, I see myself as having a Work In Progress basket always filled with a number of projects... but the baby papoose doesn't have the luxury of lounging amongst half knitted socks and the fantasy of other things I imagine creating with needles - babies grow fast and there are no guarantees this garment could be shuffled to accommodate the "next baby". The reason I ... read more

Creative Bits

I got back into knitting last week and finally finished the pair of socks I started in Drumnadrochit. I love the earthy colours and the Freedom Spirit wool is excellent for sock making. This is the third pair I have made in this pattern ~ it's also the third pair I'm giving away. I promise to make a pair for me next...Before I start more socks though I'm focusing on the baby papoose I started months ago. I got so far and then abandoned it, but if I don't finish it soon it will miss its ... read more

Ready To Go

Well I didn't get the clays out yesterday. Instead I packed my suitcase and got myself almost totally organised for my trip. Call it productive procrastination, or call it living proof that I have learned some lessons about Being Ready Ahead of Time. I don't leave for my trip until early tomorrow.

The only thing I haven't done is complete the partner for this sock. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending how you look at it, my Mum ... read more

Knitting Therapy

Rainbow FeetSocks by Taexalia for Taexalia:)I'm half amused to be writing this post at all.The idea of knitting being a liminal space, or a way to open gates to the psyche, or a path to Zen (choose your favourite or run screaming for the Old Age now...) was not something I considered when I decided I wanted to be able to knit socks. But I'm finding that it works for me.I suppose, when I think about it, knitting is just like any other creative pursuit - the act of doing is where the magic ... read more

The Joy of Socks

I am addicted to knitting. It all started with a gift from @ of a book, some wool and needles and now, in true *me* style, there are more needles, another book and lots of delicious wool. Yes - I have another creative interest that involves stuff and poses a storage problem. We need a bigger place to live. But sock knitting is so much fun! I started off with the baby bootees for the bun my sister is baking and then I made myself a pair of socks that had a cute twisted knit that meant no heel. ... read more

Sock it to me

Does it count as creative today that I finished my sock after midnight? :)I have not yet begun its partner, and I am in a quandry over whether to start knitting from the point in the wool where I snipped, or to try and make a pair of socks with matching stripes.I am LUCKY that these are the things that occupy my mind.I suppose the way I ripped into my parcel from a book shop was quite creative. And yes I know that I was ranting about *stuff* the other week, and so to go shopping so soon after ... read more

More is less

I haven't written about resolutions yet, although a few have been popping into my mind. The thing about resolutions is that they always seem to involve LESS of, well pretty much everything. I think that's why so many fall by the wayside long before we are toasting Burns - and maybe the wee dram in that glass is the final symbol of the downfall...My theory about the universe, and the human psyche, is that it/they respond much more to, well, MORE.So this year my style of resolution is all about ... read more
