Baby Steps Are Little Leaps

I do not feel depressed today. This is the second time I have been able to write that this week and mean it. I understand that this may only be temporary reprieve since my External Stressor has been absent. I understand that all of the little changes I have been making may not entirely add up to beating depression by themselves if the External Stressor is missing from the experiment. But what it does show is that once I can eliminate the External Stressor completely I have no excuses. The ... read more

Yesterday I chose my theme word for 2009 - story. Today I feel that I already have that word licked... and I am changing my 2009 theme word to...

Women Who Inspire Me To Finish The Job

I have been feeling rather blocked recently about writing here and everything else, perhaps the reasons are obvious and perhaps not - but it is what it is A Block. I wonder if the reasons for a block are really important, and it isn't just the task of navigating the block, getting over it, past it, around it that is the really important thing. Reclaiming, taking back power, saying What The Fuck.So this morning I decided to catch up with the blogosphere and read what everyone else is writing ... read more

Creative Play

I made a conscious effort today to have a newsfast. It's just too easy to get sucked into the negativity *out there* and I always try to be aware of my own tendency to get hold of a bone and chew on it until I reach emotional exhaustion. I could drown in information overload about depleted uranium for instance, but I've done some info-trawling and I've put my thoughts about the use of the Solway in writing in all the directions I can think of. For now I have to let go and accept the boundaries ... read more

Windswept and Interesting

Rainbow over the ForthI have the beginnings of a cold coming on and I'm also pre-menstrual, so you might want to take a step back. However, I need to be congratulated because instead of sitting inside feeling miserable, I motivated myself to take advantage of the sunshine and get all breathless in Holyrood Park. Of course by the time I got myself organised and out the door (and forgot my flask of water and things I was going to post), the clouds had begun to congregate. Still, I was thankful ... read more

Journeying

I was catching up on my Kaleidosoul email reading when I discovered two things that have been monumental in my life in the last couple of days. In fact there is so much energy swirling around at the moment that I can't quite remember which *thing* I discovered first...I think it was Barb Kobe's Creative Journey Game, and the fact that by the time I discovered it all the spaces for the Kaleidosoul course were full. But having taken a look at her website it didn't take much for me to buy a copy ... read more

More is less

I haven't written about resolutions yet, although a few have been popping into my mind. The thing about resolutions is that they always seem to involve LESS of, well pretty much everything. I think that's why so many fall by the wayside long before we are toasting Burns - and maybe the wee dram in that glass is the final symbol of the downfall...My theory about the universe, and the human psyche, is that it/they respond much more to, well, MORE.So this year my style of resolution is all about ... read more

Coasting

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Bass Rock Firth of Forth"][/caption] We have been enjoying the beauty and solitude of the North Berwick beach recently. Here the Bass Rock shows herself nude, without the mystical white veil of 140,000 gannets that live and breed on the island between February and October. It is an eerie sight to twiddle with the cameras at the Scottish Seabird Centre and find little more than bare rock... But look to the other cameras and you will see ... read more

NaNoWriMo 2007

It's that time of year again when the excitement is building and thoughts of characters, plots and rattling keyboards run rampant in my mind. I see before me a possibility, a challenge and an excuse to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. In previous years I have failed in the sense that I have never managed 50,000 words, although I've usually written more words than I wrote the previous month - so the word failure is perhaps too harsh. This year I rise to the challenge yet again with ... read more

Art Exhibit

In June @ and I travelled to Odense in Denmark to see the exhibition mounted by TSLO. We both had work showing and it was just a wee bit exciting. @ took part last year and we had both travelled over, and I pledged to take part this year. In the end I was quite close to the deadline for submitting work when I decided to try and make an oil painting. I hadn't painted for YEARS and didn't quite know what was going to happen, but I had this vision of bringing Crow to a canvas and so I gave it a ... read more

Moving Forward

What to say after an attempted terrorist attack in Scotland? I mean do I blog about the foxes? (who have been hiding from the numerous thunder storms today) Do I witter about my new project? Do I carry anger over some of the bigotry I've read flowing from people's fear? Well thank whichever higher power you speak to, let's thank them for ineptitude. I wandered over to Create a Connection and found yesterday's challenge and it's feels like a good, positive way to begin July... Try Goal ... read more
