Watching Over Predators

The kind I have some respect for that is...

I noticed Mr Fox skulking past the Sparrow Bush as I was making my toast and felt blessed because I could have missed the split second sighting so easily.

A moment later I gasped as I realised that Mrs Fox was curled up in the long grass of the untamed (thankfully) garden cleaning herself and enjoying the sunshine. Mr Fox skulked back and curled himself up a few feet away to do the same.

They have been relaxing and sleeping this way for over an hour and so at peace are they that the sparrows have settled and are playing on the grass strands just above them.

There are around 50 flats overlooking these gardens and I suspect I am the only person who has noticed this lazy Friday snoozing. Fences and grasses prevent good photos but sometimes it is better to lay down the camera and watch over nature and notice more closely...

I wonder if they are resting after mating? It's the Quickening time just now and their mating calls have been ringing out in the dark of night.

I heard our foxes calling in the night last night, for the first time this year. So lovely… though it drives my dogs crazy.

Hee hee! They seem to do it more at this time of year and this amateur naturalist surmises it is to do with hormones ;o)

Although I have a recording I made of an agitated fox one night that I must upload some time.

I love hearing them and knowing they are around :)
