Japanese Whaling Commences

Yes they are at it again - sending a fleet of boats out into the high seas with a goal of slaughtering 935 Minke Whales and 50 Fin Whales. I imagine they will be even more fired up to complete all that killing following last year's failure to reach their quota - they were only able to kill around half the number of whales allocated thanks to the combined efforts of Greenpeace and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

This year Greenpeace have decided to remain on dry land and so the Sea Shepherd will be attempting to protect 985 whales alone.

I find it quite disturbing to be using words like "quota" and "allocated" with regards to whales, never mind having to deal with the concept of still using words like "killing", "hunting" and "slaughter". I find it even more disturbing that Japan is getting away with these atrocities by claiming this cull is for "scientific research".

What exactly are Japan researching? How quickly Minke Whales die when harpooned? How long it takes for one country to bring a species onto the endangered list? Or how much wool they can pull over the eyes of the IWC?

Enough is enough.
