Install.me

Here I am with a brand spanking new blog. I am quite chuffed with myself as this is a much more complicated process than signing up for Blogger. When I first explored the idea of blogging I remember reading about some of the top tips:

  • Get your own domain/hosting
  • Use Wordpress
  • Of course when I started blogging I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy it, how long I would participate for and whether it was worth the time and financial outlay to do anything more than grab a free blogspot and experiment. I still don't ;o)

I recall sometime not that long ago reading something that the wonderful and knowledgeable Sue from Tamebay said... something about Wordpress being the blogging platform used by people who know what they are doing. Well, I thought, I'm really not sure I'm in that category... But I kept sneaking back to the Wordpress site and imagining a new and wonderful blog... and here it is... although I suspect the wonderful is just seeds pushing roots just now...

When I read about the .me domain being made available I was tickled by the idea and that's when this new blog was really born. I can see it right before me, I just have to figure out how to make it happen.

I was a little daunted by the idea of *installing* Wordpress on my pretty new domain. I am not a web techy person - I liken my web techy ness to my typing... two fingers, sometimes three, sometimes touch, lots of luck... But I managed everything with the only problems being that my hosting company had me on a stinky old fashioned server and the fact my blog wouldn't load wasn't my own technical errors but a need for me to poke the people I pay for my acre of cyber space :)

So here I am with a new blank page and a particular affinity for the two options I have for privacy - the password protect option and the Private Posts widget.

Regular readers of my blogspot may have picked up on why those two things might interest this blogger... ;o)

More colours and things to follow...

For starters I don't like fonts with feet... so my next adventure might be in the CSS bit... of course my two favourite books on that are not quite available just now (more later).
