Blogaversary

I realised this week that I have been blogging for two years - today is my blogaversary. I remember when I first set up my blog I had this sense of writing into a void, of not having a clue what to say. I wasn't even sure what the point of blogging was and whether it was something I really wanted to do. Two years on I have come to accept the ebb and flow of my blog productivity/inconsistency and I try not to feel obligated to produce something - sometimes I just have nothing to post, sometimes I post every day and it's OK.

For me blogging has definitely been a positive thing and has boosted my creativity in many ways, whether it's from the community aspect of finding other bloggers who inspire me, or the feel good factor of just having posted a piece of writing that flows into going off and writing something else, or picking up a paintbrush, or going out with my camera. Creativity needs nurture and I think that blogging is a wonderful way of finding that, especially when most creatives seem to have a tendency to be or feel isolated.

I never defined my blog or chose a topic or focus for it - which I think is the number one piece of advice touted to new bloggers. It's just me and falls into the messy and random category of "personal blogging". I think that "online diaries" get the most flak in some quarters, but when I look at my blog it doesn't seem like a diary - probably the only word I could use to define my blog is experimental.. how does it feel to share this? does writing about this make a difference? what ripples flow from blogging into the rest of life and are those ripples good or bad?

Ah well two years and 175 posts later (a batting average of a post every four days?) and I quite like what I'm doing here and looking forward to the next milestone - which today is cup of coffee number two.

Special thanks to my readers, and especially my commenters, for the encouragement and support I get just from you *being there*. It means a lot :)

    Two years?! That’s fantastic!

I’ve only been doing it for about six months, and I’ve shared some of your feelings/reactions. I don’t know what my blog is, but I have found, like you, that it inspires me in so many other creative ways. It opens up something inside me.

    Gorgeous photo, too!

Congratulations! Happy Blogiversry! One of the things I love about Blogging is the infinite variety in styles I encounter – the individuality of material used, and yours has a “voice” that I find really welcoming and energising – Ispiring. I’m really glad to have encountered your blog!

    My first visit, happy blogaversary.

I tend to reconstitute old stories and put across my meagre opinion more than treat my blog like a diary.

I’m not sure I could come up with enough interesting stuff from my waking weekday hours to fill a paragraph, so I stick to my weekend stories and tales from my youth.

Each to their own. Here’s to another 2 years of your web 2.0 life.

oh and how glad am I that you are there blogging, with your wonderful yard foxes and house mice. =] I have most recently given myself permission to not be a slave to blogging – or anything else this year, except the &*( video game I’m trying to beat, and it makes it all good if not exactly productive (in the normal sense of the word). Happy blogaversary!

    Two years…excellent. Happy Blogday.

Me? I’m more mental than experimental. I’ll be two in July (including the dark ages on blogging on myspace).

I used to worry about running out of stories but it hasn’t happened yet. One of the upsides to living with Meeester.
