More is less

I haven't written about resolutions yet, although a few have been popping into my mind. The thing about resolutions is that they always seem to involve LESS of, well pretty much everything. I think that's why so many fall by the wayside long before we are toasting Burns - and maybe the wee dram in that glass is the final symbol of the downfall...

My theory about the universe, and the human psyche, is that it/they respond much more to, well, MORE.

So this year my style of resolution is all about more - more tranquility, more weekends *in* the landscape, more writing, more blogging, more creativity, more reading, more laughter, more sex, more healthy food, more travel, more exercise, more business, more peace, more Gummy Lifesavers (I live at least 3000 miles from the nearest vendor!).

One thought that has been prominent in my mind is to do something Creative Every Day - so when I swung past Tammy at Women Art Life I was grooved out to read that Leah has set up another great creativity blog challenging us (gently) to do just that. The universe provides!

I'm doing quite well so far with a tick in the box for every day - last night I even started a drawing trying to sketch an idea I have about the Cailleach. But sock knitting is my new obsession - I sat down and got the first sock started on the circular needle, finally translating the instructions with my fingers, and I've been happily doing a bit every day. This morning I woke up and the first thing I did was complete a section of sock - I've got one more section to complete and then I'll have one whole sock...

I don't think it really matters what I'm doing, as long as I'm doing something creative. I love the wool @ chose for me, I love the way the tube grows and the apparently random dye forms a stripey pattern. The pattern is supposed to be *very simple*, and the sock design doesn't have a heel (perhaps I'll rise to that challenge with my next pair) - the most difficult thing is keeping track of where I am on the round and how many rows I've done. I also somehow ended up with four extra stitches at some point - hopefully my sock won't look too odd!

Of course I am now thinking about going to the nearest wool shop and buying everything in sight - I never manage to pick up *minimal stuff* hobbies, do I?

PS I nearly forgot: MORE INK!

Hi, Taexalia! Popping by to return your good wishes for 2008. May it hold everything good that you desire. I was delighted to see you’ve signed up to Creative Every Day too. – Though I suspect you have enough outlets to very easily manage way more than one thing each day. Love the socks! – Without heels! Brilliant!
