Parental Advisory

I really don't want to be negative about Live Earth because I really do think that raising awareness about an issue means reaching people on their level... and so if a bunch of concerts around the world reaches a few more people with the idea that this planet we walk on, this air we breathe is sacred ~ then it's all good.

BUT... does anyone else think it is just a little bit amusing that Al Gore, a driving force behind this project, was phoning people who swear a lot/sing sexually provocative lyrics asking them to perform?

You know - people like the Beastie Boys... people like Madonna (number 8 on the PMRC's Filthy Fifteen.

You know ~ Al Gore whose wife, Tipper, championed music censorship "consumer information in the marketplace"... the woman who heralded the arrival of this sticker:

Parental Advisory

Probably guaranteeing that more sexy sweary music was coveted by more pimply teenagers than ever before.

I remember the days when the removal of stickers was highly important... things like "Import" "One-Up Records" and the above Parental Advisory were "cool" and remained intact... the price sticker, Woolies or Sale sticker were to be picked at until every last bit of environmentally unfriendly glue was gone.

It's all a little bit amusing in the same way that you can now hear Frankie's Relax on the radio at 2 in the afternoon...

That lot said - please do install long-life lightbulbs, buy environmentally sound products, turn off your standby devices, think about what's really behind your lifestyle and remember the first word in Reduce/Re-use/Recycle is reduce...

My favourite part was definitely when the Beeb cut away from Chris Rock because he said “Motherf****r”. And Jonathon Ross explained that they had asked him not to swear before he went on stage.

THEY ASKED CHRIS ROCK NOT TO SWEAR?????

Mind you, I suppose it makes as much sense as asking people to travel less and use less electricity by getting them all to drive to London and dazzling them with a state of the art light show.

    Sadly the BBC reports ~

“Thousands of plastic cups were left on the Wembley Stadium floor at the end of the London concert, despite organisers urging the audience to put them into recycling bins provided.”

I avoided most of it- but what I did see was a bit cack handed. It really makes me cringe to see rock stars being interviewed about ishyoos.

Edith Bowman talking to the bloke from Kasabian about recycling. You’re having a laugh.

And as for the old school rock stars that contributed…well that lot all have their own jets. Their carbon footprint is “can only get shoes to fit me on specialist sites on the internet” huge.

Phil Collins can get to fuck (just flet the need to add that)

Oh we would not have Phil Collins on our telly ~ Mr Spacehopper HATES him. I mean really HATES him!
