Magic

Small White Butterfly Child
Late last year we had a bonus extra in our organic lettuce from the farm - I fed her up and watched her turn into a chrysalis. Her jar has sat on my desk throughout the winter with a tiny inch long fragile greenish pouch precariously attached with a few strands of gossamer. At one end the caterpillar's old head dangled, no longer required...
Just yesterday I was worrying a little that she had been chrysalis soup for a very long time - and I fretted about how I would know if something was wrong... I put my hand against the jar and gave her some Reiki. This afternoon I was just writing I looked up and there she was - OUT! - resting on the stalk of some fake roses Allan bought me!
I was all emotional and I felt like a parent as I watched her excrete the last of the pupa magic and pump fluid into her wings. She sat there for a little while, drying off and then she began to climb the (fake) stems. I got her onto a lid and amazingly she didn't fly away - which is great because she was still inside! I opened the window but I didn't want to just fling her out so I got her back onto the wooden roses and sat the jar on the windowsill. She hid under the wooden roses letting the warm of the sun and the breeze dry her and then off she flew.
I think she coped with the whole thing much better than me - I was a nervous wreck! I can't imagine what having a bigger, less independent child is like!
So that's my miracle for today - isn't nature just the most magical, wondrous thing?
