The Write Habit

Tammy mentioned Julia Cameron's new book in her blog and I was forced to buy a copy - forced by the dark presence in my soul which harbours an addiction to over-stuffed book shelves, knowledge and the idea that the key to my creativity will be found if I buy every book on creativity out there.

Finding Water is similar to The Artist's Way but it feels a little looser. So far, having been at it for a week, I like it. I love Morning Pages and whenever I start doing them I always wonder why I fell out of the habit, and how I survived without them. It's a great way to dump my brain and get on with the day. It's also a great place to get my dreams down and explore the themes that appear. I am dreaming of past faces just now and letting go of a few things - good work to do as winter draws to a close and I feel the quickening of spring.

So I'm back into writing every day and who knows I may even write here every day too. I've also taken up another old writing habit, one suggested by Natalie Goldberg in Writing Down the Bones. The challenge is to fill a notebook a month with writing. Some of it is stream of consciousness writing, like Morning Pages, and some of it is timed writing practise using prompts or whatever comes to mind.

I feel more sane with writing a more definite habit in my life, and I notice that no matter how much time I spend at the page, there seems to be more time around to do the other bits of life.

I am still on my path to Being Organised and I'm feeling quite motivated these days. It only took me 3 days to get 15 new pendants online last week - that's photographing them, editing the photos, creating files on my website, writing copy, creating eBay HTML templates and uploading it all. I'm chomping at the bit now as there are two boxes of goodies somewhere in the postal system with more new stuff.

My challenge this week is to make a walking habit. My body needs to work!

Postscript:

I almost forgot. I got a new toy this week - a "memory stick"... well that's what they seem to call it, but I call it a dictaphone. Maybe I'll find some wisdom if I record myself talking to myself, maybe I'll write better dialogue. I had the idea a while ago and I had even cut out a picture of one to put on a Destiny Map - but the Universe provided before it was even stuck to the page. So far I pick it up, say something, listen to my voice, cringe and delete it *giggle* but I like that it's there for when the moment strikes.

Of course if I fall in love with talking my stories, I will need Dragon software to transcribe the words. Yes, it's on my Amazon wish list...
