Coming out of my shell
Random conversations can lead you to the most interesting places... Yesterday a friend posted on a forum asking about Rumpelstiltskin - she had come across a little figurine that looked like him and wanted some advice. It sent me off on a lovely tangent recalling the story and in the end she concluded that the little figure must ... read moreA Baby Step for Writerkind
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Altered Waterfall"][/caption] Aside from my Morning Pages, I had fallen behind a little with Finding Water. I'm going to be gentle with myself about that since I had a whole week of chaos when the heating was being replaced, followed by a week long Artist Date/Artist Walk in the Lake District. So the last few days I have been doing a little catch-up with the Divining Rods. I wrote on Sunday about the wee revelation in my Morning ... read more
A Sneaky Predator
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Herdwick Sheep"][/caption] Here's one of my holiday snaps - aren't these sheep just the cutest? They are Herdwick Sheep - a hardy breed found in the Lake District in England. These were about 2 metres away from us with no fencing - they are intently watching our Gemmadog - who paid them no heed whatsoever. I'm not sure, but the one on the left may have a lamb or two in that belly :) I am so enjoying my Morning Pages - I don't even ... read more
Picking Up The Pencils
My hand made sketch book sat on my desk for most of the day. I picked it up occasionally and marvelled at my creation, felt good about the fact that I had motivated myself to just make it. The cover looks too white and tidy, I want it to resemble the tattered old sketchbook I made many years ago and filled with bits and pieces of ideas, but I want this one to be filled with better drawings. As thrilled as I was with the idea of the new sketchbook, I didn't go straight to it and begin drawing ... read more
Filling the Well
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Finding Water"][/caption] I've returned from a week in the Lake District in England full to the brim with experiences, memories, sights, sounds and ideas. I took my new toy - my partner bought a new camera and I snaffled his old one and I took 358 pictures, some of which I like... I bought some new pencils and one evening I sketched the Gemmadog and let myself explore with graphite. I realise that I don't even know how long it's been ... read more
It Works!
The lovely men left a couple of hours ago and I must say I will miss them. A nicer couple of guys, father and son, you couldn't hope for. Aye well when you work at home the company is a nice wee change. Today they fitted the towel rail and finished connecting everything up, filled the system with water and tested it. WOW - these radiators are way more effective than the old ones and this is good for my toeses, the environment and our pocket. They also bricked up the old fireplace and ... read more
A Few Words
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Remembering Tsalagi"][/caption] I am dithering over posting because I am reluctant to move beautiful Tsalagi off the top of my blog. Ever since I heard the news I have been struggling to accept it is real. I let the tears flow and cherish all my memories. When I think of her, all I can hear is her laughter and I take this as a sign that she is happy. I feel her close by, like a warm blanket. I can't believe I will never hold her again. ... read more
Heating Installation Update
Well it has been an interesting week - much less traumatic than I anticipated, but then I was a little pre-occupied with the the loss of a friend. On Monday morning we took up the rest of the hall floor: Then the lovely men came and started to get to work. They did lots of things like tying off the hot water tank - isolating it so that we could still have hot water before draining the radiator system. They removed floorboards and took out pipes and removed the old radiators and then ... read more

Preparing for the Invasion
This is a long story and it is growing... Last year the council decided that the chimney stacks on this row of flats was in need of compulsory repair. Needless to say no-one got off their bum and organised the repairs so the council went ahead. They put up lots of scaffolding, made a lot of noise and very occasionally they did some work. When they got to our chimney, they had to send in a gas fitter to disconnect our gas so they could block up the fire place. He informed us that our back ... read more
Finding Water
Today I will begin Week 3 of Finding Water. Just yesterday I was feeling that I wasn't really getting anywhere. I've been doing my Morning Pages every single day and I had even walked once each week, but the only thing close to an Artist Date was going out to watch the Lunar Eclipse - and I'm not sure it counted because I wasn't alone. Yesterday I was feeling that I was going through the motions and barely scratching the surface, that it wasn't enough to feel good about sticking to the ... read more
The Write Habit
Tammy mentioned Julia Cameron's new book in her blog and I was forced to buy a copy - forced by the dark presence in my soul which harbours an addiction to over-stuffed book shelves, knowledge and the idea that the key to my creativity will be found if I buy every book on creativity out there. Finding Water is similar to The Artist's Way but it feels a little looser. So far, having been at it for a week, I like it. I love Morning Pages and whenever I start doing them I always wonder why I ... read more
