Thoughts About Government
Watching the current furore within the UK government has me wondering about the party system, democracy and effective management of countries...
Today we have Tony Blair, the Prime Minister holding tight to his premiership whilst members of the party he leads are "plotting" to eject him, or at the very least push him to commit to stepping down. Whilst all this goes on the actual running of the country appears to be on the back burner and the focus is on power struggles. Even if he announces a departure date today, the Labour government will spend some time in upheaval focussing their energy on who to replace him with - there is already one website up showcasing an MP, John McDonnell, and his campaign for leadership...
Obviously I think he should resign with immediate effect so that the clean up process can begin, but looking at the bigger picture - will we be any better off?
It seems to me that it doesn't matter which party is voted into government - at some point the government disintegrates into power struggles, coups and leadership contests and the service of the citizens is forgotten.
Why do we need parties? Why do we need politicians to be banded together in groups which inevitably fracture and fail?
Why could we not create a system where individuals stand in elections against individuals and are voted for based on their individual visions? And then the parliaments would be about true debate and partisan politics and the time wasted on them might disappear...
Just an idea!

Skewed Focus
that would be a nice world…a true republic…each one a vote…but for one Taexalia so eager to do things, how many people are there who find comfortable to be directed…if we were braver…but the true thing is also the difference between politics for politics and politics to do things…see you dear…

just my two cents!!!
